Evening at Tower Bridge 2012

Tower Bridge has announced that it is joining forces with its
partners at Seasoned Events to hold a unique ‘Champagne and
Chocolate’ event on Valentine’s night.

Between the 13 August and 23 September 2011 the Walkways at Tower
Bridge will undergo a period of works which will see the
installation of new hard wood flooring. Tower Bridge remains open
through out with discounted ticket prices available on the
door.
Art at the
Bridge Phase 2

THREE rising stars from Southwark Arts Forum (SAF) have been chosen
to exhibit their work within Tower Bridge in a year long rolling
exhibition ‘Local Art at the Bridge’. Launched in March this year,
the exhibition reflects the iconic London landmark and the River
Thames from the artists’ perspective of their local
community.

Plans to put Tower Bridge at the heart of 2012 celebrations have
been revealed and include the temporary installation of giant
Olympic Rings and the Paralympic Agitos during the Games
period.
125 years old
and still standing strong...

A visiting Architect once commented that in today’s modern
throwaway society even structures have a design life expectancy and
for a bridge this is apparently 125 years. On the 21st June 2011,
it will be exactly that period of time since Albert Edward; Prince
of Wales (later King Edward VII) laid the foundation stone of Tower
Bridge. The stone can still be seen today at the west base of the
North Abutment next to the Tower of London.

World famous Tower Bridge set for lighting makeover in time for
2012 celebrations. The Mayor of London has announced a deal between
the City of London Corporation, City Hall, EDF and GE to install a
state-of-the-art energy-efficient lighting system on Tower
Bridge.

Master Receives MBE

Eric Sutherns, Bridge Master at Tower Bridge (which is owned and
managed by the City of London Corporation), has received an MBE for
services to the City of London. In a ceremony at Buckingham Palace
on February 8th, he received the honour from the Prince of Wales in
recognition of his 23 years of service at Tower Bridge.

Freestyle motocross star Robbie Maddison took London by surprise
last night as he performed a spectacular backflip over an open
Tower Bridge in the British capital. The 27-year-old Australian
took to the air at 2.55am and soared nearly one hundred feet over
the Thames.
